North Butler holds off Vikings baseball

Each time the Northwood-Kensett baseball team mounted a rally North Butler had a response Monday as the Bearcats handed the Vikings a 6-3 loss.

Northwood-Kensett outhit North Butler 12 to eight but the Bearcats were able to make the most of their hits.

After the Bearcats took a 2-0 lead in the second, the Vikings scored once in the bottom half. But in the third North Butler scored twice more to take a 4-1 lead. Northwood-Kensett came back for single runs in the fourth and fifth but couldn’t get any closer.

The Vikings turned in a triple play with the bases loaded in the game to end the top of the seventh. Spencer Capitani caught a fly ball and threw to second for the force out. The throw back to the pitcher got away and the catcher threw to the center fielder covering second for the third out.

Jordan Reindl had three hits and Capitani added two hits. Jacob Gordon and Derrick Varner each had home runs.
