Raymond Grunwald, 94

Raymond A. Grunwald, 94, of Ellendale, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at New Richland Care Center.
Raymond was born Sept. 3, 1914, the son of Gottlieb and Mary (Uptadel) Grunwald in St. Mary’s Township, Waseca County. They moved shortly after he was born to Berlin Township in Steele County where he was raised and attended country school. He was confirmed into faith at Zion Lutheran Church. Raymond was united in marriage to Alene Thompson on April 27, 1940, in Ellendale. He farmed in the Ellendale/New Richland area until retiring in 1978. The couple wintered in McAllen, Texas, for 12 years following retirement. Alene died April 25, 2003.
Raymond enjoyed playing and watching baseball. He loved listening to big band music and going to dances. He enjoyed fishing and always had a love of farming. He also liked spending time with his family and loved them very much.
He is survived by a son, Dennis (and Barbara) Grunwald of Ellendale; a daughter, Kaye (and Frank) Allen of Cedar, Mich.; sister, Dolores Haug of Phoenix; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one step grandchild, three step great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alene; his parents, Gottlieb and Mary; a great grandson, Declan Riley; three sisters: Rose, Regina, Violet and three brothers: Roy, Everett and Jay.
Visitation will be at First Lutheran Church on today from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Ellendale with The Rev. Arne Halbakken officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale.
