Sen. Al Franken is taking care of another piece of belated business related to his ultimately successful election: A victory party.
Franken returns Saturday to the St. Paul hotel where he had hoped to celebrate the Senate win in November. The Minnesota Democrat is gathering supporters at the Crowne Plaza Hotel overlooking the Mississippi River.
It’ll be held in the same ballroom where Franken emerged the morning of Nov. 5 to say he wouldn’t waive an automatic recount when the initial vote count put him narrowly behind Republican Norm Coleman.
Franken pulled ahead during the recount and held off Coleman during a legal challenge decided by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Franken was sworn in as the nation’s 100th senator on Tuesday.
