Strong starting pitching is always a recipe for success in the postseason and the United South Central American Legion team continued to get dominating pitching as it rolled to a 7-0 victory over Lake Crystal in the District 2 subdistrict championship Sunday in St. James.

For the third straight game a USC starter delivered a two-hitter as Post 210 (13-6) secured the No. 1 seed for the district playoffs which begin Tuesday in Jackson. Ned Kalis was stellar as he became the third different USC pitcher to limit an opponent to two hits. Kalis struck out five and didn’t allow a hit after the first inning.

“Our pitching was very above average this weekend,” said Post 210 head coach Pat Frank. “You can’t ask for anything more from our pitchers.”

William Huper and Kevin George provided the offense with two big home runs. Huper connected for a two-run homer in the first and George launched a three-run shot in the sixth inning.
