USC Legion finds strong pitching again in win

For the second straight game the United South Central American Legion baseball team got a two-hitter from its starting pitcher and Post 210 rolled to a 7-2 win over Lake Crystal in the opening round of the post season.
Dreyer fanned 10 in seven innings and gave up two runs on two hits as USC (13-6) secured a trip to district playoffs next week. Post 210 will play Sunday for the pool play championship, the outcome has no bearing on the district playoffs.
Lake Crystal struck first in the top of the first for one run, but USC tied it in the second with a Dustin Dylla RBI single to score William Huper.
Nick Fure connected for a two-run homer in the fourth that put Post 210 up 3-1 and Lake Crystal never mounted much of a threat.
Post 210 added to the lead in the fifth after Huper and Dreyer led off the inning with back-to-back walks and Ned Kalis reached on a single to load the bases for Dylla. Once again Dylla delivered, this time a two-run single to give Post 210 a 5-1 lead. Eric Lackey added a two-run single to make the game 7-1.
“Our pitching has been very good and we’ve getting clutch hits when we needed to,” said USC head coach Pat Frank. “That’s what you have to do at tournament time.”
