Obama, your plan on health care won’t fly

Mr. President:
As an opponent of your “health care” program, I’m here to turn myself in, as you requested. Yes, I know that you asked neighbors to “turn in anything fishy when people talk about health care” — but I see nothing wrong with turning myself in.
Yes, I’m one of those people who oppose your ill-considered program. Your lack of explanation has caused more people every day to oppose it.
Socialized Medicine has not worked anyplace in the world that it has been tried. Why would you propose it here, unless it is more of a power grab than it is a public benefit?
I spend a lot of time in Canada. Contrary to liberal assertions, it is not well-received. Yes, it is “free” — but what good is “free” when it isn’t available? Bread in the old Soviet Union was “cheap” too — but there just wasn’t any of it. Only the free economy makes goods and services available to all. Health care that you have to wait months for isn’t good care at all — and having government bureaucrats make determinations (“end of life counseling”) on who lives and dies is despicable.
I also live in Minnesota. The Canadian Health Care boondoggle has indeed been a boon — for Minnesota hospitals. Canadians come across the border in droves — our border city hospitals are thriving. They have to hire doctors — and the Canadian doctors are finding work here. As one of our local politicians put it (not from your party) “I love Canadian doctors — they are some of the best in the world — and they are working here!”
I have never seen the cost savings in your paying my health care premium, and my paying yours. You may come out on the losing end — after all, you are now 48, and I’m 62. On the other hand, you smoke — not a good risk.
Being a conservative, I always try to look at the bright side of things:
1. Like the earlier HillaryCare, the more people knew about it, the more they disliked it and appreciated their own care. A recent poll shows 83 percent satisfied with their health care.
2. As you are well aware, this debacle has taken down your approval ratings, as well as those of Congress. The prospects for 2010 are looking brighter all the time.
3. Congress is getting an earful from angry constituents. Perhaps they won’t be so willing to rubber stamp your ideas.
4. While Congress is tied up with this program, they can’t do further damage with programs like “cap and trade” and “cardcheck.” With any luck, this will be the “high water mark” of your presidency — or, as some have called it, your “Waterloo.” If you don’t know what Waterloo is, have Queen Elizabeth explain it to you — after she gets over her anger at the “gifts” you stiffed her with.
Republicans squandered their chance while in power by going along with Democrat big spending — and they lost. Things looked grim there for a while, until Minnesota voters injected some levity by electing a clown to the Senate. You have single-handedly leveled the playing field by helping the public select the Republicans on eight out of the 10 items in the Rasmussen Poll.
Now that I’ve “snitched” on myself like you wanted us to, do I have to turn myself in, or will you be having federal agents provide transport? Also, it is really cold here in Minnesota — can I be incarcerated in Gitmo, since you won’t be using it? I’ve heard it is really nice.
Keep up the good work!
I would provide full directions for your agents to find my house, but then you probably already know.
