Palma Laugen

Palma C. Laugen, age 96, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial will take place in Lime Creek (Stateline) Cemetery, rural Emmons.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
Palma C. (Brekke) Laugen was born Aug. 31, 1912, to Nels and Christina (Hovland) Brekke in Emmons. She attended rural schools for her elementary education and graduated from Scarville High School in 1929.
She was united in marriage with Orville Laugen on April 5, 1933. Palma was a homemaker of the family farm, was a member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, and was the organist for many years.
Palma enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, Norwegian hardanger embroidery and other embroidery projects. In later years, she moved to an apartment in Lake Mills, living there for several years before moving to the Lake Mills Care Center.
Palma is survived by her three children and their spouses Donna (Allan) Butler of Coon Rapids, Phyllis (Loel) Diggs of Watertown, S.D., and Howard (Lila) Laugen of Leland, Iowa; eight grandchildren Ava Sue Butler-Ping, Sandra Ballard, Michael Butler, Thomas Diggs, Corey Diggs, Nate Laugen, Jackie Whiteacre and David Laugen; great-grandchildren Blair, Anna, Katelynn, Cody, Nathan, Brennan, Dylan, Karrina, Breanna, Ben, Brittanie, Zakkariah, Andrea, Carter and Bradlee; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville in 1972; brother, Thelford Brekke; sister, Cora Opdahl; and a granddaughter, Natalie Ann Laugen.
