Rachel Weigel, 93

Rachel Amanda (Christiansen) Weigel, devoted wife of Joseph Jay Weigel (deceased) and loving mother of six children, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, passed away peacefully with her children at her bedside on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at 6:45 am. Rachel was 93 years old.
Rachel is survived by two older brothers: Amos Christiansen (97) and Dan Christiansen (95); sons: Steven of Woodbridge, Va., Ronald of Colorado Springs, Colo., Gary of Gardnerville, Calif., Timothy of Brighton, Colo.; her daughters: Chrysann of Boulder, Colo., and Janice of Donaldsonville, La.
Rachel was born on Sept. 27, 1915, in Jewell, Iowa, of nine children of Carrie and John Christiansen. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1934. She married Joseph Weigel in Long Beach, Calif., in 1943. Rachel worked for six years with the Student Union at the University of New Mexico. In Boulder, Colo., Rachel worked at the Fairview High School as a librarian’s assistant. Rachel was devoted to her family, loved gardening, baking, camping and cooking. She loved to play checkers with her grandchildren and sit and watch her Colorado Rockies baseball.

A Mass of Christian burial was at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 am. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery. Crist Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
