Warren Nelson

Memorial services for Warren Lee Nelson, age 71, of Bellingham, Wash., will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Private interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery prior to the service. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at Bayview.
Warren died August 21, 2009, at his home in Bellingham.
Warren Lee Nelson was born on Feb. 13, 1938, to Clarence and Gladys (Almberg) Nelson in Albert Lea. He grew up on a farm near Emmons. Warren went to school and graduated from Kiester High School. He attended four years at Gustavus Adolphus College and then went on to receive his master’s at Indiana University. On June 13, 1972, Warren was united in marriage to Fiona Macdonald in Cape Town, South Africa. Warren was employed by Chevron Oil Company as a geophysicist for thirty years. In 1999 the couple moved to their current home in Bellingham. After Warren retired, he and Fiona did much traveling in Europe. Warren enjoyed photography, wildlife, stamp collecting, coin collecting, birding and working in his garden.
Survivors include his wife, Fiona of Bellingham, Wash.; brothers, Darrell (Rosemary) Nelson and Douglas (Elaine) Nelson, both of Emmons; sisters-in-law, Tessa (Lindsay) Hogg and Margart Macdonald; and several nieces and nephews.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, several in-laws and a nephew.
