Bulldogs volleyball takes 2nd at Forest City tournament

Lake Mills made up for an early loss on the season to North Sentral Kossuth as the volleyball rolled to a second place finish at the Forest City tournament Saturday in Forest City.
The Bulldogs went 2-0 in pool play, beating Spirit Lake 21-9, 21-8 and Clear Lake 21-19, 18-21, 15-5.
That put Lake Mills into the championship bracket and forced a rematch with North Sentral Kossuth, which is one of the three defeats on the season for the Bulldogs.
This time it was all Lake Mills as the team got a 21-16, 21-11 win to advance to the tournament championship.
The Bulldogs got another rematch with Algona, the fourth-ranked team in Class 3A, a team that is responsible for two of the three losses on the season for Lake Mills.
Algona took control and rolled to a 21-10, 21-12.
The Bulldogs faced Spencer for a true-second match and won 21-12, 21-11.
“I’m really proud of what the girls have done on the court,” said Lake Mills head coach Jim Boehmer.
Darcy Nelson led the team with 34 kills on the day while Amanda Lampman had 19 and Lindy Pins 17.
Morgan Fjelstad has 75 assists in the tournament.
