Frieda Wangen, 97

Funeral services for Frieda M. Wangen, 97, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bear Lake Concordia Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gary Hanson will officiate. Burial will be at Bear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.
Frieda died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community.
Frieda Martha Wangen was born on April 9, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Flamme) Drommerhausen, on the family farm in Pickerel Lake Township. Frieda has lived on the family farm all of her life. She attended country schools, Districts 42 and 52 through the eighth grade. She was a lifelong member of Bear Lake Concordia Lutheran Church. Frieda was united in marriage to Arnold M. Wangen on Aug. 23, 1930, at the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Albert Lea. She was a homemaker and farmer all her life. Frieda enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, reading and gardening. She took special pleasure in the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the pets who shared her life over the years, most recently Abby and Rocky. She was appreciated for her compassion and being a good listener, her wonderful baking and her wit and sense of humor.
Frieda is survived by her grandchildren: Claudia (Bret) Winkler, Bloomington, Margaret Wangen, Diane Landaas, Matthew (Sharon) Wangen, Martin Wangen and Melissa Wangen all of Albert Lea, Marcia (Jeff) Bauers, Glenville, Janis (David) Deyak, Iowa City, Iowa, Aaron (Jody Selberg) Wangen, St. Clair, and Kevin Anderson Otsego; great-grandchildren: Mary, Elizabeth, Joshua and Rachel Wangen, Samuel, Nathaniel and Sophia Deyak; daughters-in-law: Harriet Wangen and JoAnne (Roger) Fink; brothers-in-law: Russell Wangen, Harold (Maxine) Wangen and Bill Aanerud. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; children: Marvin, Duane and Gerald; brother, Arthur (Blanche) Drommerhausen; sister, Vera (Ben) Ashleson; sisters-in-law: Marie (Alfred) Kaufman, Helen Aanerud and husband Arthur Gunderson, Dora (Henry) Melander, Florence (Chester) Hansen, Viola Wangen; brothers-in-law, Nels (Irma) Wangen, Elvin (Irene) Wangen, Glenn (Lila) Wangen and Floyd Wangen; four nephews and one niece.
Memorials preferred to Lutheran Blind Mission, “Peace and Power” or Crossroads Community Hospice.
