Harry Gavle, 81

The funeral service for Harry M. Gavle of Albert Lea will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Lunder Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tamara Dahlvang will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea veterans organizations.
Harry died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center. He was 81 years old.
Harry was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Freeborn County to Harry and Mildred (Olson) Gavle. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1945. He entered the United States Air Force on Oct. 3, 1949, and was discharged on Feb. 2, 1953. He served in Florida and England. Harry married Maxine Thompson on Aug. 16, 1952.
He was an active member of Lunder Lutheran Church. He belonged the American Legion and Eagles Club. Harry worked for Wilson & Co. for 39 years. He enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling.
Harry is survived by his wife, Maxine; children: Douglas Gavle and his wife Pat of Twin Lakes, Denise Thompson of Mankato and Craig Gavle of Glenville; seven grandchildren: Sarah Berven and her husband Bart, Lisa George and her husband Kevin Nicole Krueger and her husband Jon, Erik Thompson, Jasmine Gavle, Jared Gavle and Kayla Thompson; four great- grandchildren: Hannah and Ashlyn Berven, Isaiah and Jazzy; sister, Marilyn Perkins of Westminster, Colo.; sisters-in-law: Alice Bidne and Edythe Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diane Gavle; brother, Stanwood Gavle; brothers-in-law: Mervin Perkins, Duane Thompson, Clifford Thompson, Alfred Bidne and Art Vermedahl; and sister-in-law: Norma Vermedahl.
