John Schroeder

John Carl Schroeder, age 85, of Deerwood died Saturday Sept. 8, 2009, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.
He was born on May 28, 1924, in Peotone, Ill., to John A. and Frieda (Pries) Schroeder. He married Vivian R. Schroeder on April 22, 1946, in Freeborn County.
John was a retired foreman with 27 years of service with Albert Lea Foundry. He was also a past employee for Bob’s Lanes, Albert Lea; Land O’ Lakes, Aitkin; and Jennie-O Turkey, Pelican Rapids. He was a World War II army veteran. He was a member of Salem Luther, Deerwood and a lifetime member of the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post 557, Deerwood and the Garrison VFW.
He worked the Crosby food shelf for many years. John loved playing games and cards with his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching game shows and “All My Children.”
He is survived by his wife Vivian; daughters, Joyce (Darell) Johnson, Inver Grove Heights, and Jackie (Leroy) Elyea, Brainerd; sister, Frieda Bartsch, Sun City, Calif.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, David; brother, Harry; an infant brother; and sisters, Evelyn Sater, Mildred Hartwigsen and Dorothy Schroeder.
Funeral services will be 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood with full military honors given by the Walter Scott Erickson America Legion. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Friends may call on Friday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
