Merlin Schreiber, 84

The memorial service for Merlin E. Schreiber of Albert Lea will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Clarks Grove. Visitation with Merlin’s family will be one hour before the service.
Merlin died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 84 years old.
Merlin was born Nov. 23, 1924, at Faribault, to Benjamin F. and Lucinda (Eigenbrodt) Schreiber. He was raised in the Kenyon area and attended Kenyon High School. Merlin moved to Albert Lea in the early 1940s. He married Lois Hanson on May 30, 1948, at the Clarks Grove Baptist Church parsonage. Merlin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Merlin worked for Montgomery Wards selling furniture until 1968, then he worked for Thompson Walker Furniture Store and then in 1970 he owned and operated with his partner A. F. Morey Morehouse the Herberger Furniture Store until 1986 when it closed and Merlin retired. Merlin enjoyed working in his yard and gardening.
Merlin is survived by his wife, Lois Schreiber, of Albert Lea; two sons: Mike Schreiber and his wife Margaret of Chanhassen and Scott Schreiber and his wife Kristin of Albert Lea; three grandchildren: Elizabeth Schreiber of Pine Island, Wes Schreiber of Chanhassen and Kate Schreiber of Albert Lea; brother, Harold Schreiber, of Cottage Grove, Ore.; sister, Mary Hume, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin F. and Lucinda Schreiber.
