The United South Central football team spread things out to a variety of sources Friday in a 32-7 blowout win over Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial.

Five different players caught a pass and five different players rushed the ball as the Rebels (3-1, 2-1 Gopher Valley AA) used a balanced attack to overtake the Knights.

USC got on the board with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Riley Swearingen to William Huper in the first quarter and Swearingen ran in a touchdown in the second quarter to put the Rebels up 12-0 quickly.

Eric Lackey scored from 22 yards out in the second to extend the lead to 19-0 while Kyle Bauman hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Swearingen in the third and Tyson Morton scored from four yards out in the fourth quarter.

“We had to come out and control the line of scrimmage right away because they have some good lineman,” said USC head coach Brad Huse.

The Rebel defense was at its finest and held Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial in check for the majority of the game, limiting the Knights to under 100 yards rushing until the fourth quarter.

The win sets up a pivotal game with No. 7-ranked Waterville-Elysian-Morristown next Friday in Wells. A USC win could give the Rebels a share of the conference lead if they can knock off the undefeated Buccaneers.

Swearingen finished with 164 yards passing and 23 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

USC running back Matthew Wood saw his first action of the season since being injured in a car accident before the first game. Wood rushed eight times for 27 yards as the Rebels had 146 yards rushing and 310 on offense.
