State officials find case of elder abuse

Investigators from the state Health Department found a teenage aide abused two frail residents at a west-central Minnesota nursing home.
The aide was fired from Glenwood Village Care Center the day after the incidents were reported in June. The aide has denied the allegations.
This is the fourth case of nursing home abuse in Minnesota in just over a year.
One of the four was a case of teenagers allegedly abusing elder patients at a nursing home in Albert Lea.
The state report on Glenwood says the aide made one resident cry by telling her she could soon see her dead husband, and she threatened to send another resident to jail, where she might be raped.
The director at Glenwood Village says the staff has supplemented formal training sessions with coaching and discussions about how to recognize and report unacceptable staff actions.
Investigators found the home acted appropriately.
