Tiger girls’ soccer overcomes slow start

There wasn’t a full moon outside Tuesday night but there were some strange things going on at Hammer Field.
The Albert Lea girls’ soccer team faced Faribault Tuesday at Hammer Field and outshot the Falcons 50-2, but the score at halftime was 0-0.
The Tigers (9-2-1, 3-2-1 Big Nine) broke the game open in the second half for five goals, beginning with Brooke Hanson’s first goal of the season.
Just 1 minute, 56 seconds is all it took for Hanson to get Albert Lea on the boards as she took in a pass from Taylor Friehl and buried her shot into the goal. Hanson went on to add another goal in the 56th minute, which put the Tigers up 3-0.
Friehl went on to add two goals of her own and Ariel Christensen had three assists in the game.
“It was like changing the key from C to D,” said Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill. “Just some minor changes that allowed us to open it up and get some more attackers into their half. We didn’t panic … we knew time was on our side.”
Marah Maras added a goal in the 63rd minute that put the game away.
The Tigers face John Marshall Thursday in Rochester.
