The Albert Lea girls’ tennis team went 1-1 Saturday at Waseca at the Waseca Quad, ending a three-match losing streak.

The Tigers defeated LeSeuer-Henderson 5-2, getting three wins at singles and two at doubles in their first match of the day.

“They got us at the top spots and we were able to use our depth once again,” said Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam.

The Tigers lost at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, but swept the other matches.

Albert Lea’s Sarah Wenum got a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kendra Wolf at No. 2 singles while Michelle and Kayla Hartmann got wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.

Jenna Sager and Kellsie Dieser defeated Kirsten Shaughnessy and Liz Weirs 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles while Amy Bohlen and Chelsea Petersen beat Jacqueline Tousley and Emily Barnard 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) for the Tigers.

Albert Lea scrimmaged Mankato West in the second match of the day and Gillam used the match as an opportunity to give other players a chance in different spots in the lineup.

The Tigers were swept 7-0, but were competitive in most of the matches.

In the final match of the afternoon Albert Lea lost 7-0 to Waseca.

The Tigers were on the wrong end of a lot of close first-set matches, with four matches being decided by two games in the first set.

Albert Lea faces Owatonna Tuesday and Faribault Thursday.
