It was another dramatic comeback from the No. 3 doubles team of Kayla Hartmann and Zoey Hill that sealed the team’s 11th victory of the season, tying the single-season record for wins under Gillam.
Against Austin Tuesday the duo rallied from a two-game deficit to provide the fourth win for the Tigers. Hill and Hartmann were at it again Thursday, coming back from a five-game deficit in the second set for a 6-3, 7-5 victory that powered Albert Lea (11-9, 3-5 Big Nine) to a guaranteed winning record.
Taylor Nelson got her third consecutive win at No. 1 singles, rallying from a disastrous second set for a 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Century’s Alex Miller. Nelson’s win was the only one for the Tigers in singles play, but a clean sweep in doubles propelled Albert Lea.
Jenna Sager and Amy Bohlen at No. 2 doubles were one of four matches that went three sets, and also one of the two winners for the Tigers. Bohlen and Sager took the first set 6-4, but lost the second 6-4 before grabbing the final set 7-5.
“It’s good to get there,” Gillam said. “I think they felt like they all accomplished something.”
