Area businesses learn about safety

Every other month, an organization in Albert Lea gets together to learn about safety and health.
The group, called the Stateline Safety Council, is made up of representatives from businesses from southern Minnesota and northern Iowa.
“It’s a great opportunity to network to see what other businesses in the area are doing,” said Kim Duncomb, council board member. “If you have any questions on safety, it’s nice to have that sounding board, find out what other groups are doing.”
In October, the meeting will consist of a presentation by Dr. Karen Gosen of the Albert Lea Medical Center about employer response to economic work-related stress.
Like other meetings, there will be a buffet-style lunch catered by Cedar Valley Services. The cost for lunch and the presentation is $8 for members and $12 for nonmembers.
Meetings are held from noon until 1 p.m. at Riverland Community College, Lecture Hall Room 124, on the Albert Lea campus.
In December, the discussion will be about winter safety; in February, cardiac health; and in April, generational workforces, treasurer Wanda Staska said.
“It’s a good community networking and showing of your support,” Staska said. “We have a lot of local Albert Lea businesses involved.”
