Byron ended the Albert Lea’s boys’ soccer team’s season Thursday in the section playoffs with a 1-0 overtime win.
Matt Thorpe found the goal in the seventh minute of overtime to hand the Tigers a season-ending loss.
“It was another fantastic game,” said Albert Lea head coach Elia Romano. “Both teams came out with a lot of intent and played really hard.”
Romano said his team did a good job of containing Thorpe, who has more than 100 career goals, for the game.
The Tigers (7-11) controlled possession for the majority of the game, Romano said.
Despite the loss, Romano was proud of how the team improved as the season yet along.
“I’m extremely proud of this group of players,” he said. “They had so many opportunities to lay down and they never did.”
