Albert Lea resident Teresa Kauffmann won the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce’s ornament contest for a second year.

Kauffmann’s photo, a winter scene taken from New Denmark Park featuring Katherine Island, will be showcased on the chamber’s 2009 ornament. It will be for sale by Nov. 23.

Tami Riecke, chamber operations manager, said 48 people voted in the contest, and the winning photo won by only two votes. The public could either vote online or at the chamber office.

There were 19 entries.

Kauffmann, who is employed as the city’s public information coordinator, will be awarded with a gift basket of more than $500 in items from local businesses.

Kauffmann said she was excited to hear she won the contest.

She noted she took the photo last winter one day when she was on her way to work. She had her camera with her so she decided to stop.

“I’m grateful for the chamber for having this fun contest,” Kauffmann said. “I think the picture is going to look really cool on an ornament.”

Previous ornaments featured the Fountain Lake fountains, the Fountain Lake Park gazebo, a Pickerel Lake sunset, downtown lampposts festooned with flags and petunias, and a winter scene on the trail that connects Brookside Park to Pioneer Trail.

Kauffmann’s earlier winning image was of the downtown lampposts in 2007.

This is the sixth year of the contest.

Riecke encouraged people to begin thinking about a photo to submit for next year’s ornament.

People can view the contest entries at www.albertlea.org/ornament.htm. Kauffmann’s photo on the site is No. 18.

Ornaments will be available for purchase at the chamber at 701 Marshall St., Albert Lea.
