Inclement weather with low ceilings plus runway reconstruction have been causing long delays at Minneapolis-St. Paul Int’l Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration is reporting delays of more than two hours for flights arriving in the Twin Cities on Thursday. Flights departing for Atlanta, the three main New York area airports and Philadelphia are also running about two hours behind.

This coming weekend, which coincides with the annual conference of Education Minnesota teachers union, tends to be one of the busiest travel weekends of the year for the airport because students are on vacation.

Officials had hoped to complete the runway project before the convention, but the recent cold, wet weather has pushed that back.
