Dode died surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009. She was 78.
Delores Margaret VerHey was born on Oct. 30, 1930, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Arnold “Nick” and Margaret A. (Rauenhorst) Olson. As a young girl she attended St. Theodore Catholic School and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1948. “Dode,” as she is fondly called, married C.F. “Skin” VerHey on July 5, 1950, at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. They made their home and raised their family in Albert Lea.
In addition to loving and caring for her family, throughout her life Dode had worked at Skinner Chamberlain, Queen Stoves, for Dr. Folken and Dr. Gill, and also the Albert Lea Medical Center before retiring. Coffee with her “lady friends” was always something Dode looked forward to. She also enjoyed playing cards and getting together with her birthday club. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were precious treasures to her — she was a very special wife, mother and grandmother!
Her loving family includes husband, Cornelius “Skin” VerHey; daughter, Peggy Anderson, and her husband David of Albert Lea; son Rick VerHey and his wife Robin, also of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Chad (Melissa) Anderson of Littleton, Colo., Kari Matson of Clarks Grove, Dusty VerHey of Louisville, Ky., and Shanna VerHey (fiancé Wade Westland) of North Branch; great-grandchildren: Brooke Swanson, Luke Matson, Bryce Anderson, Stela VerHey, CeCe VerHey and Joee Westland, and one more blessing on the way; brother, Duane A. (Gen) Olson, of Albert Lea; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Shirley Stanley of Apple Valley, Lillian (Bud) Thompson of Mankato, Edwin (Nancy) VerHey of Hollandale, Mary Davidson of Rapid City, S.D.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Connie Olson; and brothers-in-law: Gordy Stanley, Gus Davidson, Orlan Thomas; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edward and Anna VerHey.
