The funeral for Donald J. “Dooley” Hoiseth, 80, of Chatfield will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Marys Catholic church in Chatfield with the Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. He died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at the Season Hospice in Rochester.
Donald Hoiseth was born in Rushford, Money Creek Township, Fillmore County, on Jan. 1, 1929, to Eli and Clara (Sorbo) Hoiseth. He lived in the Rushford area until moving to Chatfield in 1943 and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1948. In 1945, Dooley was part of the football team the was undefeated and unscored on. Received an Athletic Scholarship to the U of North Dakota. He received 13 letters, basketball, football, and baseball. Dooley was in the Air Force from September 1950 until October 1951. He was on State side during the Korean War. He married JoAnn Marie Streiff on Dec. 30, 1955, in Rochester. Dooley was a self employed painter, and was a Little League Baseball coach. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on several parish councils former member of Union 681. Dooley loved his family and friends, enjoyed watching the Vikings, Twins, and all other sports, feeding and watching the birds and his record collection. He also enjoyed decorating outside of his home for Halloween and Christmas.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, Chatfield; one son, Michael J. (Margaret) Hoiseth of Bettendorf, Iowa; three grandchildren: Andrea, Tim, and Tom; and a special niece, Lois Barnes of Chatfield, and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Thomas John Hoiseth; a brother Herbert; and a sister, Amy Bothun.
Visitation will be Friday at the Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield from 6 til 8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
