Editorial: More NFL games? Please, no

The NFL is considering adding two games to its schedule — not this season, of course, but starting in an upcoming season.
That would put the number of regular season games at 18. To win the Super Bowl, a team would have to play 21 or 22 games, depending on their playoff seeding.
Meanwhile, the NFL is worried about injuries. Its leaders each year pass rules designed to reduce the number of hard hits. For instance, the classic football strategy of a wedge formation on kickoff returns is no longer allowed.
If the NFL wants to reduce injuries, adding more games is not the solution.
We can imagine if both of these initiatives continue — more games and less hitting — in 20 years NFL fans will have what amounts to a half year of touch football games to follow.
That is, if they follow anymore.
