Since 1906, Naeve Hospital Auxiliary has been supporting Albert Lea Medical Center with annual gifts. This year’s gift of $80,000 went toward the purchase of mammography software for ALMC’s Radiology Department.
The software, called iCAD Second Look, provides a second look digital review of the breast tissue.
“iCAD is an effective tool for the early detection of breast cancer,” said Sue Claybourne, director of ALMC’s radiology department. “It is state-of-the-art technology that helps the radiologists identify small, subtle lesions in the breast tissue that require further investigation with biopsy, allowing treatment to be done while the cancer is small.”
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and getting regular screening tests is the best way for women to lower their risk of dying from breast cancer. Screening tests, such as mammograms, can find breast cancer early when it’s most treatable. To schedule an appointment for a mammogram call 377-6349 or speak with your health care provider.
“Early detection of breast cancer saves lives,” said Claybourne.
