In the wind and the rain the Albert Lea girls’ soccer team found a way to knock off a possible section tournament opponent Tuesday in Albert Lea.
Senior captain Morgan Stadheim scored off a free kick in the 34th minute of play and Ariel Christensen scored her 15th goal of the season in the 60th minute to give the Tigers a 2-0 win over the Cougars, a team they faced last season in the section semifinals.
“Given the circumstances and the conditions of the day, both teams play pretty well,” said Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill. “We made the most out of our opportunities.”
The Tigers and East were comparable in the other statistical categories with Albert Lea holding an 18-13 edge in shots and a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tigers host Austin Thursday night in their regular season finale.
