USC/A-C girls’ cross country takes second at ‘No Frills’ meet

The Rebels cross country teams hosted their annual “No Frills” cross country invitational at Freeborn’s Oak View Golf Course Tuesday.
The girls’ and boys’ teams from LaCrescent each won their competitions with the USC/A-C girls finishing second, and the Rebel’s boys’ team finishing fourth.
The LaCrescent girls are currently rated 10th in Class A in Minnesota.
Daniel Elmer had his highest finish of the season, finishing second. Other scorers for USC/A-C included Thane O’Rourke (19th), Seth Treptow (21st), Josh Meine (23rd), and Brett Stevermer (26th).
Hannah Goemann ran her fastest time of the season to finish fifth, followed closely by Taylor Allis (8th). Amber Erickson (13th), Abby Trio (15th), and Jenna Stevermer (17th) were the other scorers for the Rebels. Goemann, Erickson, and Stevermer all turned in their best times of the season. Andree Escherich, who has been running No. 4, was held out of the meet with a sore knee.
“We are running at our best right now,” said head coach Kent Viesselman. “About half of our varsity team ran their best times of the season Tuesday, and the others were very close to season bests.”
The NRHEG girls’ team finished fourth and scorers included Abby Crabtree (10th), Shantaya Olson (24th), Emily Habeck (26th), Destinee Meyer (37), and Alex Hale (40th).
The Panther boys’ were led by Josh Schroeder, who finished sixth with a time of 18 minutes, 24 seconds.
Other placers for NRHEG included T.J. Schlitz (25th), Tyler Martin (51st), Andy Kampen (55th), and Raece Johnson (61st).
“All the athletes ran very well for us,” said Panthers head coach Mike Weber. “Abby Crabtree rebounded nicely from last week and ran a good, solid race. Shantaya had her best meet of the year, also turning things around from last week. Emily had her best race of the year with a great time below 19 minutes.”
