Val was born on the July 4, 1922, the daughter of Oscar and Hazel (Bravick) Flo in Bricelyn. Val’s mother died when she was a toddler and she was graciously cared for by aunts and uncles Gertie and Ole Sunde and Peter and Lydia Flo in the Bricelyn area.
She married Herbert Hoiseth in 1940 and to this union six children were born:
Barbara, Steven, K.W., Michael, Richard and Kathryn. They were later divorced.
With lots of tender, loving care and hard work, Val raised her six children.
She always put everyone else first, never complaining.
She worked until she was 85, having worked in onion fields, as a waitress and for 26 years as a cook at Woodvale.
In addition to working and caring for her family she also found time to volunteer at the Eagles and the Moose Clubs. She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
VaLorus loved to travel and take trips with her family, having been to Europe four times. She loved to read, especially cookbooks, enjoyed boating and being on the pontoon, and would never miss laughing at a good Ole and Lena joke.
VaLorus died on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, with family by her side.
She was 87.
