Ila Iverson Schmidt is celebrating her 90th birthday on Dec 6. Her nieces and nephews invite people to shower her with birthday greetings, memories and photos.

Ila was born in rural Northwood, Iowa, on Dec. 6, 1919. She attended St. Olaf College and graduated from Fairview nursing program in 1942.

During World War II she served her country as a nurse for 34 months in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.

She married Dr. Ruben Schmidt of Alden in 1973.

After 35 years of nursing at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, she retired in February 1982. Ila is still active in her church work in Alden, the Women Veterans of Freeborn County, Red Cross and other organizations.

She and her husband Ruben moved to Albert Lea in 2006. Greetings may be sent to Ila at 2201 Stevens St., Apt. 312, Albert Lea.
