Memorial services for Casper Eugene Munson of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea area veterans groups.
Casper died Wednesday evening, Nov. 4, 2009, at St John’s Lutheran Home. He was 89 years old.
Casper was born Oct. 31, 1920, in New Richland, the son of Louie and Josie (Paulson) Munson. He attended public school in New Richland.
Casper served our country in the Civilian Conservation Corps .C.C. from 1936 to 1939 and in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1945.
On April 1, 1948 he was united in marriage to Elaine Strand in New Richland. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, and had been baptized and confirmed at the LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland.
Casper had been employed for 25 years by Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea, retiring in 1982. He had also worked for Land O’Lakes in New Richland and Musser & Co. in Kiester.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Casper enjoyed woodworking, going on walks, riding his bike and going to his children’s and grandkids sporting events. One of his loves was serving ice cream to the grandkids.
Casper is survived by his wife Elaine of Albert Lea; children: Carmell (John) Fadden of San Diego, Calif., Van (Laura) Munson of Albert Lea, Kathryn (Len) Carter of Albert Lea, Steven (Diane) Munson of Albert Lea and Jon Munson, also of Albert Lea; grandchildren include: Christina (Kristin) Fadden, Garrison (Nicole) Fadden, Jennifer (Troy) Zimmerman, Nicholas (Anna) Fadden, Anthony Fadden, Andrew, Matthew and Kelsey Munson, Krysta Wallace, Brandon (Breanna) Munson, Rachel Munson, Troy (Laura) Carter, Heather (Dusty) Maskrey and Nathan Carter; great grandchildren include: Amanda, Ben, Cameron and Danielle, Thomas, Malcolm, Josephine, Jacob and Hannah, Gavin and Shelby, Austin, Spencer and Maxwell, Landon and Parker; brothers and sisters-in-law include: Dale (Kathy) Strand of Sarasota, Fla., Vern (Shirley) Strand of Albert Lea, LaJune (Dwayne) Hagen of Geneva, Ruthie Strand of Albert Lea, Darlene Munson of Owatonna.
Casper was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: Laurel (Annie) Burton (Dorothy) Adeline, Helder (Lois), Verna, Myron (Rena), Cyrus, Chuck (Audrey) and baby Casper; brother-in-law, Lyle Strand; and mother and father-in-law, Art and Ella Strand.
