County 46 is open to traffic

Road construction for Freeborn County Road 46 was suspended Nov. 13, and the road is open.
“What this means is the road will be open to traffic but remain in an under-construction state through the winter,” said the Freeborn County Engineer’s Office in a news release.
Temporary centerline striping has been placed on the new roadway, but the temperature is too cold for the lasting paint required under the building contract, the release states. It also says mulching and anchoring of vegetation will control erosion until next year. Permanent seeding will take place early next summer.
“There are some cracked panels that the contractor will need to repair next summer but will be done with single lane closures and traffic control devices. The contractor also will be grinding bumps and rough areas that failed our ride specifications. This may take place yet this fall or early next year as weather permits,” the news release states.
County crews in the coming weeks will replace mailboxes with new safety posts and informational signage. Travelers may encounter crews working on the road.
