Everett Gordon Leroy Camp was born on Feb. 15, 1916, at the home of his parents Bert and Alma (Schiager) Camp on Pleasant Ave in Albert Lea. His mother passed away when he was two years old due to the flu epidemic. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Olga and Chester Jensen. Everett was later joined by his cousins who grew up with him as his siblings. Everett graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1935 and later from diesel mechanic school in Chicago in 1940. Everett married Marian Nelson on May 6, 1945, at the First Baptist Church parsonage in Albert Lea. He and Marian farmed near Bancroft and he later worked at Olson Manufacturing in Albert Lea and the Wright Ranch near Hayward before going to Wilson and Co., which he retired from in 1981. The couple made their home in Clarks Grove until they entered St. John’s Lutheran Home in July of 2000. Everett was a member of Clarks Grove Baptist Church where he served on the trustee board, audio visual board and a member of the Crusaders Sunday School class. He was active in men’s fellowship and bowling league with the church. Everett loved to garden, work around his home and work to help people “behind the scenes.” Everett and Marian were always overjoyed to have company stop by for a visit. One of the many special treats that were served to friends and family were the sugar cookies that he helped Marian bake. On many special occasions Everett could be seen helping his wife and the Dorcas Circle tie many quilts for charity. Everett was a special uncle, cousin and friend to many and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include cousins Gwyneth Nelson of Hayward, Betty (Kenny) Bygd of Lemon Grove, Calif., Laurel (Robert) Herdina of Albert Lea, Beverly (Jim) Kuchera of Alexandria and Rodney Jensen; nieces and nephews Sharon (Ray) Seidel, Raynold (Bunny) Jepson, Jeanene (Boyd) Reese, Alan (Pat) Jepson and Bill Nelson all of Albert Lea, Jon Nelson and Jolene Engelby of Hayward, Gary (Marcie) Jepson of Milaca, Robin (Jan) Jepson of Overland Park, Kan., Julie (Jason) Eckert of Garner, Iowa, Dale (Jan) Nelson of Fredricksburg, Iowa and Nancy Sargent of Roseville.
