Graveside services for Richard Lee Johnson of Albert Lea will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta, Iowa. The Rev. Terry Pollard will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea.
Richard died Saturday morning, Nov. 28, 2009, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 80 years of age.
Richard was born July 17, 1929, in Alta, Iowa, the son of Reen and Ruby (Burwell) Johnson. He graduated from high school in 1947 in Rembrandt, Iowa. On May 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Frances Porter in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Richard had been employed by the Cargill Co. in Rembrandt, Iowa, Aberdeen, S.D., Waltham, and Hartland. He then became parts manager for Erlandson Implement in Albert Lea retiring in 1992. Richard then worked for Dave Syverson Ford retiring in 2006.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Albert Lea American Legion. In his free time, Richard loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed the time he spent going to the Motocross races with his grandkids, casino trips with Frances, bowling league and tinkering with his cars.
Richard is survived by his wife, Frances, of Albert Lea; daughters: Trudy (Larry) Adamson of Byron and Teresa (Jim Gleason) Johnson of Minnetonka; grandchildren: Jeremy (Brooke) Skaare, Brandon Skaare, Nicole Adamson and Benjamin Adamson; one sister, Darlene (Suze) McGrew of Beaumont, Calif.; many cousins and three and nieces.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law, Larry McGrew.
