An 11-year-old Albert Lea girl was transported by ambulance to Albert Lea Medical Center Thursday evening after she was reportedly hit by a car on Front Street in front of the Trailside Apartments.
Albert Lea Police Lt. J.D. Carlson said the father of the girl, Sara Berg, had just arrived outside the apartments at about 6:45 p.m. to pick up his daughter — who had gone to a friend’s house — when the girl ran out of the apartment, across the sidewalk and into the street. The father was parked across the two lanes of traffic on Front Street opposite the apartments.
A 1990 four-door Buick LeSabre, driven by Donald Jensen, 42, was driving on Front Street heading east from Newton Street when the girl ran into the street.
Carlson said Jensen tried to swerve to avoid hitting the girl, but she was struck on the front right of his car.
The girl’s father reportedly witnessed the entire incident.
Carlson said he was unsure how serious the injuries were, but noted the girl was conscious following the crash.
The police lieutenant said Jensen was given a portable breath test, which came back clear, and to the best of officers’ knowledge Jensen was going the proper posted speed limit.
No charges are expected to be filed, he added.
