There will be plenty of hoops action going on next week on both the girls and boys side.
The St. Clair Tournament will have some quality girls’ hoops teams competing with two area teams participating.
United South Central (3-3) and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (6-1) are among the seven teams that enter with a .500 or better record.
The Panthers face Nicollet (3-1) in the first round at 6 p.m. while the Rebels take on Section 2AA champion Blue Earth in the first round at 7:30 p.m.
The winner between NRHEG and Nicollet will face the winner of the USC-Buccaneers matchup and there’s a possibility of another rematch between NRHEG and Blue Earth, the two teams that played for the Section 2AA championship last season. The Panthers defeated the Buccaneers earlier in this season 47-37.
On the other side of the bracket is St. Clair (4-3), Montgomery-Lonsdale (1-5), Canby (6-0) and Minnesota Valley Lutheran (3-2).
St. Clair plays Montgomery-Lonsdale while Canby faces Minnesota Valley Lutheran.
The Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team (3-2) faces LeRoy-Ostrander (7-1) in the first round of the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Tournament Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Minneapolis Henry (3-5) and Janesvile-Waldorf-Pemberton (2-5) are also in the tournament.
On the boys’ side USC plays in the Blue Earth Area Tournament where the Rebels will encounter Jackson County Central (4-3) in the first round at 6 p.m.
Host Blue Earth (3-1) faces last year’s Class A state champ Granada-Huntley-East Chain (2-3) in the first round.
The NRHEG boys’ basketball team (3-2) heads to the Bethany Lutheran College Holiday Tournament Monday to play Fairmont (3-1) in the first round. Others in the Panthers’ bracket include Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial (3-2) and Immanuel Lutheran (2-2).
The Alden-Conger boys’ basketball team head to Grand Meadow for its Invitational. There the Knight play LeRoy-Ostrander (1-5) in the first round.
