A Faribault man has died in a snowmobile accident.
Faribault police said 48-year-old John O’Connor was driving on the Sakatah State Trail after 10 p.m. on Sunday night when his snowmobile left the trail, hit a tree and caught fire.
O’Connor was found next to his snowmobile, police say he was wearing a helmet. He died at the scene.
Authorities said an autopsy will be conducted, with results in eight to 12 weeks.
One other rider was on the trail with O’Connor, Faribault Police Chief Daniel Collins told the Faribaul Daily News.
“Collins said he didn’t know who made the 911 call,” the newspaper reported.
