Winona jumped out to a 4-0 lead against the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team Thursday at the City Arena and the Tigers weren’t able to recover in a 5-2 loss.

The Winhawks (6-0) scored three times in the first period and added a fourth goal 3 minutes into the second before Albert Lea (3-2) was able to respond.

The Tigers got goals from Eric Carlson and Casey Marka in the second to make it a 4-2 game, but Winona added a goal in the third for the 5-2 final.

“We dug ourselves a hole,” said Albert Lea head coach Roy Nystrom. “They’re a very good team and we were unable to puck in the back of the net.”

The Winhawks outshot the Tigers 36-34 in the game.

Albert Lea plays New Prague Tuesday at the City Arena.
