A 32-year-old Geneva man charged with first-degree methamphetamine sales in October pleaded not guilty to his charges on Friday in Freeborn County District Court.
The man, Corey Matthew Anderson, of 216 Third St. in Geneva, will next be scheduled for a jury trial. His lawyer requested a speedy demand.
In addition to a first-degree meth sales charge, he also faces one charge of second-degree meth possession.
Anderson was arrested Oct. 26, after various deputies of Freeborn and Steele counties conducted a search warrant at his residence.
During the search, they reportedly found more than 20 grams of meth, a scale and other drug paraphernalia in his residence.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies specifically found:
Seven Ziplock baggies containing about 21 grams of a substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.
A magnetic case containing two meth pipes, a digital scale, a snort tube, various pills and numerous Ziplock baggies.
A black bag containing a large number of Ziplock baggies.
A Smith & Wesson handgun in a safe.
A gold box containing used snort tubes and a marijuana grinder.
Anderson told authorities that he purchases meth for $2,000 an ounce and that he sells it and usually picks it up in the Twin Cities two to three times a week by the ounce or half ounce. The report said he transports it in a magnetic case on the frame of his Chevrolet Blazer.
The complaint stated Anderson told authorities that neither he nor his wife have jobs and that he deals drugs to pay the bills.
Anderson’s first-degree charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. The second-degree charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
