Radiant Haven, a sunless tanning salon that opened just last year, will begin offering massages next month.

Angie Lair said business has been going well since opening in January, though better in the winter than summer. Radiant Haven, 100 W. Front St., offers airbrush tanning by appointment only. People call (507) 320-0053 to reach her.

However, she has been taking massage classes and gets certified soon. She will offer massages starting Jan. 11 and begin having set hours Tuesday through Saturday, she said.

She said she decided to offer massages because she thought it went well with her health-minded business.

Lair said her grandmother died from melanoma skin cancer and knew people worry that tanning beds have cancer risks. That prompted her to open the business.

Hark!

Hayward Mayor Willis Pfieffer said he and the City Council wish the residents of Hayward a very, merry Christmas.

“I wanted to achieve the color without all the harmful effects that come with it,” she said.

Radiant Haven will become Radiant Haven Tanning & Massage. The store is next to Nancy’s Hairitage, a hair salon, and Lair said having the two next door works well.

Lair chose to open her business in Hayward because it is a good location between Albert Lea and Austin, because it is close — she live in country between Hayward and Glenville — and because her family knows the building’s owner.

She said she loves the small-town atmosphere, too. When she opened, the other businesses sent flowers.

“It just seems they take care of you there,” Lair said.
