Phyllis Bangert

Funeral services for Phyllis Jean Bangert, 72, of Albert Lea will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Andrea Myers will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
Phyllis died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Phyllis Jean Bangert was born on May 7, 1937, to Harry and Bernice (Dilling) Smith in Albert Lea. She attended Albert Lea Schools and then moved to Chicago in 11th grade and graduated in Chicago. After graduation, Phyllis moved back to the Albert Lea area. On June 6, 1959 she was united in marriage to Dale Bangert at the United Methodist Church. Phyllis was a devoted wife and mother. When her children were older, Phyllis went to work at St. John’s as a nursing assistant supervisor for 18 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Eagles auxiliary and Moose auxiliary. Phyllis was a wonderful cook and loved working in her flower garden, she was also an avid Viking fan and treasured spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; children: Tami (Kevin) Strand, Jodi (Kevin) Willette, Jon (Terin) Bangert, and Andy Bangert; grandchildren: Jenny Strand and fiancé Kyle Srsen, Ashley Strand, and Josh Strand, Jill, Janelle, Jamie and Jeremy Willette, Drew and Avery Bangert and Jordan Bangert; sisters: Joan (Glen) Nyman, Sue Malinki, Shelly and her daughter Katie Callahan; brother-in-law, Dave (Penny) Bangert; and many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Lyle Malinki and Duane Bangert.
