RuthAnn Langlie died on Dec. 20, 2009, from congestive heart failure. She died peacefully at home under the loving care of family, friends and the wonderful “angels” from Hospice. RuthAnn was 66 years old.
RuthAnn was born on Nov. 21, 1943, at home in Hartland, to Ellsworth and Janet (Marlin) Tukua. She attended Hartland Elementary School and graduated from New Richland Hartland High School in 1961. On Sept. 8, 1962, RuthAnn was united in marriage to Bruce P. Langlie at Hartland Lutheran Church. For the past 35 years they have lived north of Hartland and worked together farming. For eight of those years they also managed a small farrow-to-finish hog operation, a challenging and wonderful experience for an animal lover and former city girl. From 1988 to 1990, RuthAnn attended Albert Lea Technical College where she graduated with an Associate Degree in laboratory technician and management/food science. After graduation she began employment at Land O’Lakes, Inc. as a QC/laboratory technician in Hudson, Iowa, where she commuted weekly for four years. When that plant closed, she was transferred to Land O’Lakes in Faribault and worked for another eight years at which time she retired when that plant closed in 2002. Energetic and eager to continue her career, she began working at UC Laboratory (water analysis) in Janesville as their quality assurance manager until 2008. She enjoyed her various careers in quality control/management and was very proud to be part of the farming community. RuthAnn was a passionate flower and vegetable gardener; her meticulously kept yard and many gorgeous flower gardens prompted frequent comments that her yard looked more like a park than a yard. RuthAnn was a devoted partner and wife to husband Bruce, and proud mother of daughter, Terri. She loved and appreciated the beauty of nature, the companionship of her faithful dogs and spending time with her family.
RuthAnn is survived by her husband, Bruce, daughter, Terri Langlie-Sheldon and her husband Richard of Md., father, Ellsworth Tukua of Albert Lea and long-time resident of Hartland, brother, Lowell Tukua and his wife Deborah of Tenn., sister Kathryn Huntington and her husband Dougal of Shakopee, sister Helen Tukua of Albert Lea, many nieces and nephews, and her much loved two dogs and grand-dogs.
RuthAnn was preceded in death by her mother, Janet, and mother-in-law, Ila Langlie.
RuthAnn was hard working and soft-hearted; she had kind words, a helping hand and a big smile for everyone. She was beautiful both inside and out and dearly loved by her family. Memories of her will be forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorials are preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice or The Freeborn County Humane Society.
