Albert Lea received 0.3 inches of snowfall in the mild winter storm that struck Thursday. Light snow fell in Albert Lea from shortly after the lunch hour until about 11 p.m., leaving the ground covered with the white stuff for morning commuters. Because the ground retains heat, it likely will melt off today in spite of a high of just 22.
During the storm, there were two minor traffic crashes reported in Albert Lea, one near the intersection of Bridge Avenue and Sykes Street at 4:02 p.m. and another near the intersection of East Main Street and Morningside Road at 4:31 p.m.
An automobile was also reported in the ditch on the hill near the entrance to Edgewater Park and Freeborn County Road 101 at 6:33 p.m. Thursday, according to reports.
In Freeborn County, a semi reportedly ran off the road and hit a bridge at Exit 8 of Interstate 35 just before 4:30 p.m.
Another automobile was reported in the ditch on Interstate 90 at milemarker 167 at 2:41 p.m.
More flurries are expected today and tonight. Saturday’s forecast calls for the sun to shine, with a high near 33. There is a chance of snow on Sunday afternoon or evening.
