Alsada Kathleen Parks, 78, of Hillsdale, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Hollandale, to Joseph and Beryl (Lindsley) Fogarty. She married Donald Norwood Smith, son of Harry and Margaret (Hawkins) Smith of Albert Lea on Oct. 25, 1948. He preceded her in death. She was married June 10, 1978, to Clarence Paul Parks and he survives in Hillsdale, Mich.
Kathy was a home health aide. She was a member of Hillsdale United Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Democratic Party and served with the Election Board. Kathy served as a Girl Scout Leader and was active with Hillsdale County Home Extension.
Surviving besides her husband, Paul, are two daughters: Christie (Chester) Cook of Hillsdale, Mich., and Kathleen (Kurt) Friedwold of Columbia, Kent.; two sons, Gerald (Ann) Smith of Rockford, Ill., and Mark (Chris) Smith of Mesa, Ariz.; two step sons: William Scott Parks of Hillsdale and Christopher Todd Parks of Hastings; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Iva; and one brother, Joseph.
Memorial services for Kathy Parks were held Saturday, Jan. 9, at at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with the Rev. Curtis Jensen officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
