LaBonna “Bonny” Darlene Brand Stegenga was born on Dec. 23, 1924, the daughter of Oscar and Edith (Bessman) Brand in Alden, Iowa. She graduated from Albert Lea High School and attended Minneapolis Business College. She was united in marriage to Albert Stegenga on May 11, 1944, in Hollandale, where they made their home together. She was a member of the Hollandale Reformed Church where she was active in the Ladies’ Aid group and taught catechism. Bonny volunteered with the Girl Scouts and at the Good Samaritan Center where she later became a resident.
Bonny was an avid reader and loved learning new things. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, decorating her home, reading the Bible, traveling across the country in a recreational vehicle with her husband, and socializing with her friends. She found a special delight in young children and babies and was thrilled when she became a grandmother.
Whether it was laughing around the dinner table, chatting on the phone, exchanging letters through the mail, meeting her cousins for breakfast, or giggling with her sisters in the kitchen, she loved to be surrounded by her family. Bonny had a big heart and was an exceedingly generous person. She is beloved and will be missed.
Bonny is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Albert Stegenga, Hollandale; daughter, Ronda Lynn Kanne, Woodbury; son, Troy A. Stegenga, Hollandale; grandchildren; Ryan and wife Paula Kanne, St. Paul, and Nicole Kanne, Woodbury; sisters: Bernyce Watt, Las Vegas, Nev., and Verdelle and husband Art Thrun, Belle Vista, Ariz.; sisters-in-law: Tena DeBoer, Dorothy Stegenga and Karen Stegenga; brothers-in-law: Ralph and wife Marilyn Stegenga and Herman and wife Janet Stegenga; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bonny was preceded in death by her parents.
