Television station KIMT forecasts a high on Wednesday of 31 degrees for Albert Lea. The National Weather Services predicts a high of 34. The Weather Channel says 32.

Either way, Wednesday looks to provide relief to a region of the country that has been in a deep freeze lately. We’re rooting for 34 degrees.

South winds will bring warm air to Albert Lea, prompting the question: What will locals do if the snow and ice melts a little?

Here is our forecast of what you might see in Albert Lea on Wednesday:

Residents will get out the shovels and the ice chippers and lower — maybe even remove — the humps at the end of their driveways.

Residents will get out the shovels and ice chippers and get rid of the layer of ice and compacted snow covering their sidewalks.

Public and private plow operators hopefully will use the warm weather to remove the bumpy layer of ice and compacted snow covering residential streets and business parking lots.

Motorists will flock to the car washes to remove the salt from the bottoms, sides and tops of their automobiles. Some might even take time to remove the salt from the interiors, too.

Snowmobile riders will hit the trails. Children with sleds will hit the hills. Skiers will hit the slopes. Snow is enjoyed the most on a nice day, as long as the snow doesn’t get slushy.

Bill payers will smile as they adjust their thermostats.

The weather looks to be in the mid- to upper 20s through the week and into the weekend. Have fun.
