Memorial services for Eugene Edwin Citurs, age 62, of Glenville will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Deb Miller will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by Freeborn County area veterans organizations. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date. Gene died of a liver disease Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, surrounded by his family.
Eugene Edwin Citurs was born on Sept. 30, 1947, to Lynn and Dena (DeRaad) Citurs. He graduated from Glenville High School in 1965. He lived in the Glenville area most of his life. Gene was inducted into the United States Army on Nov. 22, 1966, and served in the Vietnam conflict until August 1968. Gene was united in marriage to Gloria Bergland on Aug. 30, 1969, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Gene was a retired heavy equipment operator. Through the years, he had worked for Sorensen Bros., Ulland Bros. and Ames Construction. Gene was a member of the Moose Club, Eagles Club and American Legion.
Survivors include his sons, Chad and wife Jill of Albert Lea, Christopher and wife Gina of Farmington, and Cory and wife Beth of Plymouth; grandchildren, Kalli, Rylan, Braeya, Sydnee and Jack; mother, Dena Citurs; brother, Robert Citurs; and sister, JoAnn Becker all of Albert Lea; nephews, Jason Becker and Paul (Cheryl) Citurs; niece, Denise (John) Sola; uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Lynn; brother, Duane (Butch); and father-in-law, Truman Bergland.
