Gilman Tukua, 92

Funeral services for Gilman A. Tukua, of New Richland will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Paul Andre will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Richland. Military honors will be accorded by the New Richland Servicemen’s Club.
Gilman died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 92 years of age.
Gil was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Freeborn County, the son of Selmer and Anna (Olson) Tukua. He was a graduate of New Richland High School. On June 8, 1942, he was united in marriage to Vida B. Hansen in Carson City, Nev. He served for five plus years in the military with the Signal Corps and attained the rank of Captain. Together they lived in Santa Ana, Calif., for many years where Gilman worked as an agent for Lutheran Brotherhood. This past year they moved to New Richland.
Gil was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland and the Sons of Norway.
Gil loved to play golf. He often played twice a day and recorded two hole in one shots in his 45 years of playing.
Gilman is survived by his wife, Vida of New Richland; sons: Jewel (Jerri) Tukua of Santa Ana, Calif., and Dennis (Karen) Tukua of Antioch, Calif.; grandchildren include: Aaron, Sarah and Rebecca Tukua; step grandson, John D. Ryan; and great-grandchildren: Anna Marie Price and Azarya Lynn Marie Tukua. Two sisters also survive: Sylvia (Gene) Dodge of New Richland and Dorothy (Bill) Jones of Downy, Calif.
Gil was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
