Leon Dickman

Leon Dickman, age 78, of rural Austin, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at his home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1931, in Austin, to Gerhart and Luella (Lightly) Dickman.
Leon graduated from Austin High School. He married Mary Folkestad on July 14, 1951, in Albert Lea, they later divorced. On Oct. 17, 1980, Leon married Barbara Bluhm Lukes in Maui, Hawaii. Leon farmed on the family farm until 1972, when he worked for the Oakland elevator, where he worked until 1980. They went to Maui, where they managed a condo and sold real estate. After five years in Hawaii, Leon and Barbara returned to the farm to be closer to family. He returned to work at the Oakland elevator until his retirement. Leon lived on the family farm for his entire life. In his spare time, he enjoyed exercising his Labrador retrievers while riding his ATV, spending time in the outdoors, parades and fireworks. He especially loved to spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and for one hour before the service on Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, Austin; sons and daughters-in-law: Gary (Sheila) Dickman, Austin, Brian Dickman, Rochester and Dave (Brenda) Dickman, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law: Susan (Pat) Cottrell, Oakland and Linda (Steve) Wangen, Blooming Prairie; step-children: Tim (Mary) Lukes, Chatfield and Kathy (Mark) Winninger, Waterloo, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Edwin (Betty) Dickman, Norfolk, Va.; four nieces; and many friends.
